Proton is the only Malaysian car manufacturing company for ten years that was founded in 1983 and headquartered in Subang Jaya and Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia with a manufacturing plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak. Proton is a Malay acronym for Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional or National Automobile Enterprise when translated into English.
As Proton Automobile Company expands, they thought of launching their logo badge. Car logos may not be considered important by other. However, business men have a belief that car logos are important for it serve as a visual representation to a company. Car logos are also a way of advertisement that will improve the popularity of a car brand. Proton logo is presented as an upside-down semi triangular shape printed with “Proton” on its upper part and having an image on its center part. It used the colors green and yellow on its badge.
Proton experienced becoming successful in a brief moment when they released the Saga and Wira to Trinidad and Tobago (Caribbean) during the late 90s. These models were imported to the two nations between 1993 and 2002 and sold through a local dealer, H. E. Robinson Ltd.
Proton had also exported models in the left hand drive to Europe. They had a plan of entering USA, which was considered by Malcolm Bricklin following Hyundai’s success, but it never materialized.
