MG Motor is a British car manufacturer owned by SAIC Group with headquarters in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The founder of MG is Cecil Kimber, who designed several car models for the company. On 12 April 2006, the company was named NAC MG UK Limited by the Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC) after its transfer of ownership. Following the collapse of MG Rover in 2005, NAC had acquired MG Rover’s Longbridge plant, and the rights to use the MG marque. In early 2009 NAC MG UK was renamed as MG Motor UK Limited.
The company designs, develops, assembles and market’s cars sold under the MG marque. Currently, the majority of MG vehicles sold in Europe are principally manufactured in China before being shipped to the Longbridge plant for final assembly. A major research and development facility stands at the Longbridge site.
The MG logo has a historical original like other car logos. The company’s new model MG range is based on the Roewe models like MG Rover did with the 25/ZR, 45/ZS, and 75/ZT. It was unveiled at 2011 Shanghai Auto Show and is expected to compete with other car brands soon.
